At DrupalCon NARA , we have begun preparations to establish the Local Drupal Association Japan, with the support of 10 organizations, including Nara City, and with Masami Suzuki (currently a Drupal Asia committee member) as interim chair, as an effort to become the official local organization for the Japanese Drupal community.
The initial secretariat team—comprising Masami Suzuki, Kensuke Naoe, Kunihiro Imura, and Takayuki Hagihara—prepared the foundational documents for LDAJ's establishment. An online briefing for the preparatory committee was held on December 23, 2025, attracting ten candidates. The first preparatory committee meeting took place on January 29, 2026. Although we initially aimed to complete NPO registration by DrupalCamp Tokyo 2026 (scheduled for June 27, 2026), the fourth preparatory committee meeting on March 10 concluded that completing registration by the end of June would be difficult, prompting a schedule reset. Since then, the committee has continued to meet—generally every two weeks—with the same members, and at the tenth meeting on June 16, we agreed to set a new target for registration completion by December 2026.
The timeline has been extended because, during ongoing discussions regarding the role LDAJ should play in the Japanese Drupal community and where it should focus its efforts, we realized that making hasty decisions could risk the organization's long-term operational continuity. Our commitment to establishing LDAJ remains unwavering.
We are currently proceeding with plans to finalize an outline of our business plan and budget proposal by the end of September.
